There Is A Way To Make Money From Your Hobby

For whatever reason I have always wanted to find alternative ways to make a living. The whole go to college and get a 9-5 job thing never seemed appealing to me. It probably doesn’t sound appealing to anyone but I decided in high school that I was going to pursue an alternative path.

In high school, I first started reading about bloggers making money from blogging about their hobbies. I thought this was awesome. I then read some books like The 4-Hour Work Week and was convinced I could do something similar.

At first, I just experimented a lot and tried things that weren’t related to my hobbies. I wanted to figure out how to make money doing something else besides working a job. I did this for years while also working regular boring jobs.

When I was in my mid-20s I started an e-commerce drop-shipping business called The Beer Life (which I later had to change to The Beer Lodge). At the time I loved drinking beer and I thought it would be cool to sell funny beer t-shirts. This worked out okay for me but then I started selling personalized home bar signs, which I loved, and it really took off!

I purchased the first sign for myself and thought it was so cool I’d try selling them and it worked. For years this drop shipping business made me a full-time income and during its best year, I made six figures. It was awesome.

Fast forward to now and I’m in my mid-30s and don’t drink beer too much anymore. I’m married, have a 5-month-old son, and am more focused on my long-term health than slugging back beers. I’m also in the process of selling my drop shipping business. My hobbies have changed from 10 years ago and it’s time for me to start something new.
