The Stockings Were Hung By The Chimney With Care

I’m happy to say that the house has been officially decorated for Christmas since December 1st. I’m also ecstatic with how it turned out this year. I started my Christmas decorating the week before Thanksgiving and I pretty much worked on it any chance I could get up until December 1st when I finished. It was a lot of work but completely worth it.

I had a lot of new decorations I put up this year and it always takes longer to put up new decorations than ones from previous years because you have to figure out how to put them together, where to put them exactly, and in my case how to secure them if they are being put outside so they don’t blow away from the strong winds we get.

I’m at the point with my Christmas setup where I won’t have a ton of new decorations next year but just a few new ones I’ll add to everything I have already. So I believe that next year and going forward will be a lot easier and faster setup than this year.

The biggest thing I plan to do to help me with next year’s setup is to store everything in an organized way. I’m waiting for a sale on bins and I plan to buy about 10 – 20 of them. I also want to get big storage bags to store my big outside items. I didn’t want to keep all the big boxes they came with they were too big and bulky to store.

The biggest piece of advice that I would give to myself for setting up next year is to not be afraid to start right after Halloween. I wrote another blog post about how I don’t like jumping straight from Halloween to Christmas but one thing I forgot to take into consideration is that I now have a kid.

It was tough trying to fit in the time to get the decorations up before December 1st and I think ideally next year I’d like them to all be set up by the end of the weekend after Thanksgiving. Once Thanksgiving hits things just get crazy with family activities and on top of that since I’m in e-commerce it’s also the busiest time of the year for me.

It’s also nice to be able to set up the outside decorations when it’s not too cold out. There were a couple of days when it was freezing outside but I needed to use my hands without gloves to put up the decorations. My hands kept going numb and it slowed me down.
